@puppygirlhornypost2 @pixel puni is a good mod who is hopelessly unprepared for a website full of children who got a little too much internet exposure
@sam@sillier.woem.space @pixel@desu.social yeah i don't wanna blame puni for this. i honestly didn't expect it to be this way either, are these even https://mk.absturztau.be/ users

@puppygirlhornypost2 @pixel they are not. none of them are. it looks like they came from a rentry related discord guild???
and rentry has a notoriously bad community surrounding it (mfw sending death threats to people for controlling a page URL you like)

@sam @puppygirlhornypost2 yeah, the people that look like they inhaled too many internet fumes are the rentry users.

@pixel @puppygirlhornypost2 they're the exact same kinds of people i see in the pluralkit support server . probably around the same age too
the communities around both of those services are so fucking terrible. i don't know why
@sam @puppygirlhornypost2 they also make moderation extremely hard because they absolutely bomb reports with "I don't like this person", "url hoarding" (lol) and "(x) did something bad on twitter"

@puppygirlhornypost2 @sam I can tell you as much that my choice to shutdown RS was mostly a safety ordeal because I was essentially stuck with not wanting to get more moderators.
* RS mod tools can be pretty powerful and I don't want the internet-brained kiddies abusing them
* I didn't want to ask friends to help modding because I didn't want to object them to the horrors
* the mod tools are powerful in the wrong way, lacking everywhere else and everyone involved was burned out on development -

I've seen it too many times where someone tries to make it work despite lacking the tools, infrastructure and people necessary. Each time it has an explosive ending. It's especially bad when it comes to sites that allow children on them because if you mess up with that...

@pixel@desu.social @sam@sillier.woem.space I think that a lot of people appreciated retrospring when it was still around and this way they can still have their happy memories on it. Not sure if you saw the post of mine where I talk about how it's better to let things fade way (especially online communities) then to try to push yourself. It always ends badly and when people look back at that community they're going to remember all the pain of the end instead of the wonderful experiences that they had.

@puppygirlhornypost2 @sam yeah, it was honestly pretty nice seeing people being all appreciative of the entire thing.
means that we at least somewhat built a good experience for some people.
once things are done fully, I will once again write a post-mortem telling people to leave their hands of social Q/A, especially trying to build sites on that.
there's a reason why only less than a handful larger ones remain.
