hey android, could you please say which port I should use?
-
i'm literally doing a port scan against my phone right now just to figure out which port to use lmfao
beta software is great to play around with, until you stumble across such UX failures

@mayu in other words: it is not the default port.

@awoo it is the default port adb tries to connect to and it worked on some devices mayu worked with
mayus phone just picks a random port around 50000 and mayu cant connect to it anyway -

...made the mistake of looking for UDP instead of TCP ports
- UDP port scans are really slow, ouch
- it's a TCP port I was looking for, which... makes a lot of sense actually now that I think about it lol
and ruling out two of the other ports got me down to one starting with 46 (but still 5 digits) in this case

@mayu don't feel like installing at least 3 GB of unnecessary extra content just to use
scrcpy

@awoo don't you have to connect to it first and it shows the port there?

@aurora well, it doesn't anymore (at least on Android 16 QPR1 Beta 2)

and, well, turns out that the thing I wanted to do could've been much easier (by just exporting the Gboard dictionary and modifying it on the toaster, instead of manually entering stuff through the computer via
scrcpy
)and it's interesting that google decided to go with a tab-separated format for the
dictionary.txt
within thePersonalDictionary-[bunchofnumbers].zip

@awoo i guess a tab is the only thing they could reasonably expect would never show up in the middle of a suggestion?

@irina yup! i mean, if you enter this stuff manually, there's no way for you to actually tap on a tab key on your phone, sooo- (rather, the tab key basically navigates you around the UI if you use an external keyboard)

already future-proofing the dictionary for when the TINA trams eventually go into service considering the 3rd paragraph of the German Wikipedia article about those trams1 :neobot_this_is_fine:
to quote Wikipedia: "Seit 2024 wird über erhebliche Konstruktionsmängel berichtet, die zu einem deutlich erhöhten Geräuschpegel und starken Vibrationen führen, was die Erfahrungen aus Darmstadt und Basel beweisen."

okayyyy my idea of
3+3
turning into← 🚃🚃🚃 + 🚃🚃🚃 ←
didn't work because Gboard doesn't interpret the+
character as part of a word (which makes sense)so I had to go with
3-3
instead, which feels silly but at least it works :3
