I've been trying to use Discord more for a bit and I just don't see how it managed to replace forums. What it got going for itself is that casual conversations are easier and topics may change dynamically (within the channel's scope). But the problem I keep experiencing is that as soon as a topic shifts to something I can't say anything about, all I can do is sitting it out. Forums allow you to engage with any topic at any time, which suits me more.

@volpeon May I ask what exactly is stopping you from still referring to the previous topic after it has changed?
Genuine question, I'm grasping the inability to do something this in voice chats, but I can't recall having a problem with it in text channels, worst case I'll be ignored in the heat of current discussion that I'm irrelevant to, but that's uncommon and I can just try again later at a better time -

And trying over and over again until you aren't ignored also doesn't really seem like a pleasant experience to me?
