@MagicLike the shuttle was bad tho. sorry, i know it looks super cool and i love it too but it was bad and also it killed 14 people

@papush I mean yeah but the first accident was a executive error who did not listen to the engineers and the second one was because nobody thought about a damaged heatshield (and probably "needed" to happen for a change, sane goes for some aviation accidents, some stuff needed to happen to ensure safe flights today)
but yeah it was crazy expensive but I still want it to be flying again...

@MagicLike accidents are often caused by several things that go wrong. sure the main culprits are NASA managers of the time but the design of the shuttle and its lack of abort modes made the consequences of their stupidity more drastic

also eating up all the budget of other cool things like probes, my girl venus deserves to be admired from closer up

(but yes, it did look super cool and i totally get your point)

@MagicLike the space shuttle sucks. the original design was good and intended to be fully reusable but it got cost cut so much that the end result is only semi-reusable and it killed several people in the end and also ends up just as expensive as a regular rocket launch for a much more complicated system. the SSME is pretty much the only part of the original design that remains and it shows by being a really good design and now NASA wants to put all of them on the expendable SLS for some reason
