@a1ba Reminds me I kind of want to buy some CompactFlash cards for my retro machines, mostly because I only have a single PCI-non-e SATA card.

@lanodan they are good enough for hdd replacement. Should be about same or better speed as well.

I also wonder if I should connect my mac mini to local network over firewire because it only has 100mbit onboard ethernet. Firewire technically even in worst case should still be faster.

@a1ba Heh FireWire, I have the ports but never had hardware which would use it, there's like a sort of tech blackhole here between SCSI/RS232/PS2/… and USB/eSATA/…

@lanodan @a1ba FireWire was used alot for consumer video equipment in the 90s-early 2000s, at least that’s why family had firewire PCI add on cards for out desktops…

@cell @lanodan judging by the setting in OS, it is able to act like a network card. It even shows up in ifconfig by default

So I could like get a cable, pci firewire card and connect it to the server. There are also ethernet adapters for it but I'm not sure if these could be set up at gigabit, so it maxes out at what's theoretically possible for the controller to handle
