okay dang this is stressful
but so far:
new temporary phone acquired, display assembly replacement ordered to a local third party repair store (obligatory fuck abpple)
back home now, old phone is connected through docking station, with the help of siri (and the wonderful idea from @49016@mastodon.catgirl.cloud <3) thermia was able to enable assistive touch which meant that it could use the mouse plugged into the docking station to initialize the provisioning of the new phone (moving things like e-sims automatically for example)
currently waiting for an iOS update and then it'll probably be an hour or so before all the data is transferred
then comes the fun part of trying to provision a new Bank ID (swedens digital authentication system for, well, everything from our version of CashApp, our banking apps, utility companies, digital government mailbox, etc etc) as well as all the OTP stuff
hoping that it'll be able to sell the temporary phone without too much of a loss
key take-aways:
- use a phone case!!!
- keep a spare physical sim around just in case (thermia doesn't, and there for can't even get the car into the garage because one is required to dial a certain number, and a lot of OTP logins can fallback on sms)
- keep a contacts list of important people somewhere other than the phone (iCloud saved its ass here)
- don't expect repair shops to carry parts stock for whatever phone you have, especially if it's a newer model
- if out and about, bring a physical payment card (thermia would've been stranded if this happened while it was on a night out)
more to come... just hope it'll be able to get the Bank ID sorted -

BUT turns out, one can just take a screenshot of whatever you can't see, and then just open the screenshot on the display and then one can see what's actually on screen
