    Suddenly remembered a thing old Daewoo CRT TV had, which I used when I was a kid.

    On it's TV remote it had a set of unnamed buttons, four of them were coloured, others didn't. They were doing absolutely nothing, except only one that turned the whole image black with a line that had same colors, ordered the same way they were on the remote. I think it was some kind of menu, but the feature itself was missing?

    So... what was that?

      @a1ba@suya.place teletext did provide 4 colored areas which could change pages. With the same colored buttons on the remote.

      Maybe it was translucent teletext? Or the button activated subtitles / closed captions? Often provided through teletext.

      At least in Germany.

        @a1ba

        Это либо что-то для телетекста, либо программируемые кнопки

          @kura hm, that would explain. Maybe teletext wasn't provided on the cable TV. I don't remember if it did anything when connected to VHS or DVD player... or I never tried that.

          Others in my family would rather prefer if I didn't touch these buttons because they didn't know what these do either and, sadly, weren't curious.

            @coaxial ну вот я никогда не видел этот ваш телетекст вживую, но видимо телевизор его поддерживал, а у нас его нигде и не было.

              @kura @coaxial I looked up how teletext looked and yep, that looks like it. The same black image with text on top, but I didn't had anything on it, and below the same coloured bar.
