For those who don't know, the standard paper formats are based on the golden ratio. So an A3 sheet cut in half is A4, cut it in half its A5... and so on. And all of these have roughly the same proportions, just smaller.
It's very neat, but the downside is that the measurements aren't perfectly round. A4 is 210 × 297 mm which are numbers that one just gets to know by heart.
Still, this is pretty much the smartest way to make a paper format -
