@volpeon@icy.wyvern.rip yesterday, once again, I was forced to join a discord server for the latest download of a mod. I never like doing that.

Unfortunately with legislation like UK OSA making it harder to host forums without potential heavy fines, Discord is the compromise rn. Buncha UK-hosted forums that wouldn't host distressing content had to shut down as a result of that piece of shit act.

Though I don't think there's any excuse for using it as a wiki replacement…

I have in idea to build an app suite with SMF or phpBB as the center piece, as well as instant messaging or IRC as well. All bundled in docker behind a reverse proxy. What do you think?

@volpeon Discord is destroying internet. Discord is one of the reasons you have to add "reddit" to your searches.

Don't use an emoji after every single word.

To a blind user, your toot is getting read something like this:
"Discord waving hand is waving hand not waving hand a waving hand suitable waving hand replacement waving hand for waving hand forums waving hand"

Asb yourself:
Would I like to hear a toot that contains eight times the same emoji, just because the author thought it was totally fine to put an emoji after every single word?

Depending on the cultural context, this emoji can express "Bye, we had a nice friendship".

Look, I'm all in favor of accessibility and I do take care with alt text and all as much as I can. But
1. This is the hand clapping emoji.
2. I hate reading posts like this as well even though I'm not blind, but I simply needed to vent my frustration. I never asked for it to gain as much traction as it has. One of the many frustrating aspects of microblogging.
