    bsky's thoughts on ai:

    1. copyright is good for exploited artists actually. Disney Corp will save small artists probably

    2. there are two kinds of electricity. normal electricity which doesn't pollute and ai electricity which does

      hello everyone. the real solution to these problems are:

      1. make sure artists/writers (not corporations) are paid and taken care of

      2. do not allow the creation or use of dirty power generation plants

      banning ai will not help either of these problems!

      banning ai will, however, prevent artificial john cena from sexting 13yos on facebook (but probably not on small sketchy websites)

        y'all can hate AI as much as you want, but IDK how pretending that its the source of problems that existed LONG before chatgpt took off is gonna help anything

          @gildilinie It's a more acute problem as AI is currently using absolutely positively insane amounts of energy, far more than crypto has ever used.

          The actual problem in my opinion is the people behind it though. That doesn't make me reject it any less ...

            @catraxx "far more than crypto has every used"

            this is not true. ai is currently using ~8 GW (source: https://www.goldmansachs.com/insights/articles/ai-to-drive-165-increase-in-data-center-power-demand-by-2030 )

            crypto mining used 22GW in 2021/2022 (source: https://www.cnet.com/personal-finance/crypto/bitcoin-mining-how-much-electricity-it-takes-and-why-people-are-worried/ )

              @gildilinie

              "For example, Morgan Stanley is estimating global data center power use will triple this year, from ~15 TWh in 2023 to ~46 TWh in 2024."

              " A separate report estimated that with 3.5 million H100 shipments through 2023 and 2024, that H100 alone could see total power consumption of 13.1 TWh annually."
