Today, I'm heading to Basel SBB on my first TGV Lyria. Due to my companion's rail pass, I'm not going to be doing this in my usual 1st class compartment, but this train is still pretty comfy, even if we do have a ground floor table.

WTAF? There was an automated Text To Speech message on this TGV Lyria in English saying "I am your train manager and I welcome you on board..." and no french, german, or human message alongside it.

#Interrail #CrossBorderRailI note that on this train the on-board wifi has a different SSID from the usual _SNCF_WIFI_INOUI, now _WIFI_LYRIA. It has a different portal - https://wifi.tgv-lyria.com/ - and two different on-board dining options, a Bistro, with a different selection to the usual InOui bistro, including an interesting-looking veal stew, and something called "La Table" which appears to be a much more gourmet offering, and I assume is only available in First Class. #Interrail #CrossBorderRail

More differences between Lyria and Standard TGV InOui: As well as the hat that is legally required in France, this Chef de Bord is also wearing a hi-vis armband, presumably on the insistence of Swiss railways. It really doesn't work with his short-sleeved shirt.
I know DB Zugführer have to wear an armband, but it's certainly more stylish than this thing which looks like someone from SNCF went down to Décathlon and picked up a job lot of one-size-fits-all-limbs hi-vis arm-and-leg bands...

And that was a pretty reasonable trip to round off #TGVTuesday.
I am reminded why I prefer 1st class though- I am a little large for sharing 2nd class seats on long distance trains, both me and the somewhat robust person sat next to me on the train were definitely not exactly comfortable.

And we end the day in Weil am Rhein, Germany, having crossed the border from Switzerland by tram. We do this mostly because accommodation is cheaper here, and we wanted to avoid strike-related problems in France tomorrow.
We’ll be back in Switzerland tomorrow, on our next stage towards Wien…
