I am considering to replace the SSD inside my Steam Deck. Should I go for the 2,7x more TBW (1,2PB instead of 440TB) for 29€ (well only 20€ difference because fuck Amazon and shipping is expensive apparently) extra?
Seems like a steal tbh... -

Seems like a steal tbh...@MagicLike 1.2PB in a steam deck? wha? Isn't that something that large servers struggle with?

@catraxx nono, it is TBW, i.e. Total Bytes Written - how many TB are guaranteed to be written in the lifespan of the device - it is a 2TB drive

@catraxx mhm I was already leaning towards that - now only need to justify a price of ~180€ to myself

@MagicLike it's either that or buying twice
I think longer lifespan always pays for itself. You'll likely use that drive long after the deck is gone.

@catraxx yeah I have the same mindset, but 180 bucks is still a lot of money. I am certain that I want it (also to satisfy my need to download everything lol), but just the pricetag makes me think. I know it is a great deal for what I get - I mean 90€/TB for a single-sided 2230 NVMe with only TLC flash (high chip quality, only three layers, which is the responsible aspect for such a high TBW/longevity) plus SLC (single layer flash) cache is just awesome...
