did anyone try running gotosocial on windows? I don't think it will work but I'm morbidly curious

seen quite a few people lately spinning up lil single-user instances for themselves and talking about how it feels really freeing to be in charge of their own fedi presence; that's really nice to read :)if you're spinning up a new GoToSocial instance for yourself, don't forget you can use the domain permission subscription thingy to subscribe your instance to blocklists of well-known arsehole instances, so you can create domain block (drafts) automatically and nip a lot of potential harassment vectors in the bud
some basic lists that are worth considering:
- seirdy's fedinuke list:
Explanation: https://seirdy.one/posts/2023/05/02/fediverse-blocklists
URI (text/plain): https://seirdy.one/pb/FediNuke.txt - oliphant's unified tier 0 blocklist:
Explanation: https://codeberg.org/oliphant/blocklists/src/branch/main/blocklists
URI (text/csv): https://codeberg.org/oliphant/blocklists/raw/branch/main/blocklists/mastodon/_unified_tier0_blocklist.csv - thebadspace 80% heat list:
Explanation: https://tweaking.thebad.space/about,
https://tweaking.thebad.space/exports
URI (text/csv): https://tweaking.thebad.space/exports/mastodon/80
tip: rather than creating a subscription that creates blocks immediately, it's a good idea to set it to create drafts, and then manually review and approve/reject each draft, otherwise you might end up blocking folks you actually would prefer to federate with

context: GoToSocial has always returned the

joke HTTP code to all requests that try to connect to it without giving a User-Agent, cuz (our reasoning at the time was that) if they're being rude with us we can be a bit cheeky back to them, it's all fun + gamesAs a direct result of that, some Bluesky component we've never interacted with or thought about now includes a User-Agent header so you can see in your logs who's fetching your shit (and block it if you want): https://github.com/bluesky-social/atproto/pull/3450
Anyway if you want to block the app view user-agent it's

don't use Hetzner for your stuff, cuz they will pull your shit offline with little to no warning:don't use Hetzner for your stuff, cuz they will pull your shit offline with little to no warning:

especially you should not host a fedi instance on hetzner if anyone on your instance posts tits and ass and stuff, they're incredibly prudish about such things (blah blah german law blah blah blah)
