my headcanon is that discord only grew popular because they called their communities "servers" and advertised it as being free, so in a time of paying for TeamSpeak deployments everyone went "AWOOGA, FREE SERVERS"@alexia i mean its probably just because it was easy to use, free, and better than the alternatives a lot of people were using (teamspeak people had to pay for and didn't like paying for, Skype)
