I see lots of people asking this regularly, so

how to learn any natural language

    Foundation

    • install anki.
    • get the A1 (or equivalent, ex. N5 for japanese) deck off ankiweb
    • if your language has a different writing system, get a deck for that
    • do 10 cards a day, every single day, until it is done.
    • ALWAYS do all of your reviews.

    when you finish that deck,

    Reading

    • find easy books (graded readers, kids books, something you already have read)
    • read a few pages a day. look up a few words per page (1-3). add those words to your anki deck.
    • Do Not get stuck on trying to understand every single sentence. you want to get the gist of things. Your goal is to find sentences you understand most of, and to intuit the word that is missing (ex. I need to bring my cat to the blorgoflorbo, this word has few possible meanings)
    • When you finish a book, find another book from that author. Authors tend to re-use words and structures, making it easier. Series are even better.
    • Tip, non-fiction is quite good. Simple books explaining simple concepts is even better. If the entire content of the book is something that you already know, this is the best. You spend a lot less time on the concept and focus on the language. The downside is this is boring.
    • Always do your reviews on anki. every day.

    Listening

    • Let's play minecraft series are goated for this. Tons of content, the domain is small so the words are re-used often.
    • Just listen as mch as you possibly can. If you spend time in your main language you can spend that time in your target language instead.
    • Play videos on slower speeds. Rewind. Turn on CC even if its AI to just try and catch what they are saying.
    • Take words you think are interesting or useful, add to your deck.
    • Always do your reviews on anki. EVERY DAY.

You want to learn how to read and how to listen in the language. You can learn how to write and how to talk after you learn these things. Focus on understanding messages.

None of this costs anything. There are no ads or apps or subscriptions.
