I'm a Dutch citizen residing in Germany. I am sadly currently dealing with the consequences of having changed my gender under German law, and the tedious process of having that accepted.
The Dutch are throwing a bunch of curveballs at me, such as demanding the documents having a certified translation (despite this not being required for any other birth/death/marriage/etc related docs in German, which is odd), and asking me initially for documents I don't even have, luckily they did sort of backpedal on that...
Requesting those documents, having them translated, carrying them to my birth municipality (which is expensive and requires me to take a day of leave), getting a new ID card/passport (which costs €160 a piece when requested outside NL and UPS'd to my home) is putting a massive strain on my finances, and I legitimately don't know if I will get other (expensive) curveballs thrown at me.
Another issue I am facing is the fact that as someone working over the border, accessing specialised health care is an issue, which leaves me with resorting to expensive alternatives for HRT.
This is putting a massive strain on my (already strained) budget. I'm already pretty far into overdraft so it's luckily nothing the bank will bust through the door for, but it's becoming a problem.
I also want to apply for a job here (as the current job situation is unsustainable), and rent a new place in the region. I fear that, if the data on my current identity documents mismatch what I give them (or even worse, "hello landlord here is my passport and a document from the local civil administration saying that I am trans") will definitely lead to (more) stigmatisation. It is therefore really important to get this sorted.
Help, or even spreading this post is greatly appreciated.
I have Ko-Fi on https://ko-fi.com/sammeow.
Direct bank transfer is preferred, DM me for an IBAN/bunq.me link (they take card payment or iDeal)/UK bank account number/any account details that I can get out of Transferwise
