@alex Hmm, I think WoltLab Suite Forum (previously Burning Board) is my favorite of the modern ones. I just like how it looks and works, except for the post editor which is only WYSIWYG and based on HTML. It can be janky at times. The main reason I dislike Discourse is that it somehow just won't work reliably for me. When I open a Discourse forum, chances are it will get stuck on the splash screen and then I have to find out what about my system causes it. But it doesn't always happen, and it aren't always the same steps to get it working. It drives me insane and I have lost any patience to even try to fix it when I encounter a Discourse forum with this problem. There's more, though. I generally have a hard time getting used to using Discourse. I think it's partly because it presents information in a way that confuses me, but also because the design is extremely minimalistic and bland. Not only does it leave out many information that other forum softwares would show, it also leaves little room for individuality so that all Discourse forums look indistinguishable from one another. Custom rank names, the profile fields shown next to each post, signatures... all of that gave each community a distinct identity even if they kept the default design. Discourse has none of that. You could say "well it's just noise", and maybe that's true, but it doesn't change the fact that every time I see a Discourse forum I'm struck by the sheer blandness of it.Got a bit ranty, but those are my feelings about it. :wvrnFlat:
